The Free Association

The Free Association is a London-based training company and the UK's leading improvised theatre and school. Based out of their Southwark theatre they specialise in experiential, improv-led learning that unlocks Curiosity, Collaboration and Creativity. For over a decade, we’ve equipped teams across some of the world’s most forward-thinking organisations with practical, repeatable tools to communicate clearly, listen actively and innovate together.

Our workshops create what we call an “Idea Friendly Environment” - a psychologically safe space where people feel heard, take smart risks, and build on each other’s ideas. It’s not about being funny or put on the spot; it’s about presence, empathy and responsive teamwork that translates directly to day-to-day work.

We work across multiple sectors including financial services, technology and engineering, and law, and as of 2025 have built our own purpose-built theatre and training venue in Southwark. Each year we train over 2,000+ students through our improv school, and through our Innovators of the Future initiative we extend these same skills to schools and young people-helping the next generation grow in confidence, communication, and creativity.
